The Hyeres Lowdown: Hyeres is a festival of fashion and photography located in the French Riviera bringing together the hyper cool fashion and art crowd. And guess what? We were there!
The Festival itself is set in the beautiful Villa Noailles, an early modernist house built by architect Robert Mallet Stevens. Previously the property of art patrons Arthur Anne Marie Charles Vicomte de Noailles and his wife Marie-Laure Bischoffsheim (try to say those names in under 30 seconds and repeat 5 times), it has always been considered the rendez-vous for the most avant-garde of the times.
Every year Hyeres showcases 10 fashion designers and 10 young photographers selected by an International Jury. This year the competition was presided over by the Jil Sander creative director Raf Simons. Other members of the prestigious jury included Tim Blanks, Floriane de Saint Pierre, Jo-Ann Furniss, Michel Gaubert, Lazaro Hernandez & Jack McCollough, Cathy Horyn, Christopher Kane and Carla Sozzani.
Here at Feathers we relish new talent and were truly impressed by the standard of the competition. Here’s a peek of our experience at our first Hyeres festival:
History Of My World by Raf Simons
We loved Oda Pausma’s long languid silhouette. The fluid silk and structural leather work well together to reflect a beautiful and melancholic element to her collection.
For Michael Kampe, “fragmentation” is his way to revolt against the rules of menswear.
Juliette Alleaume and Marie Vial
Emelie Melden won the Special Jury prize
*drumroll* THE WINNER IS (was)….
We wish to extend our congratulations to Léa Pecker (above) who won the L’Oréal Professionel Jury Grand Prize and Celine Meteil (below) who won the Première Vision Prize.
We hope you’ve enjoyed our Hyeres coverage as much as we enjoyed being there!
