Its the first week in January, also known to be the most depressing week of the year. Therefore we’ve decided to perk up the gloom with a list of things to look forward to in 2012! The world simply can’t end because there is too much to look forward to…

– The ultimate of all fashion exhibitions,  “Elsa Schiaparelli and Miuccia Prada On Fashion” will show at The Costume Institute in New York from  May 10 – August 19. If getting to New York is a bit of a challenge, don’t fret because our very own London Town will also be hosting a fantastic array of exhibitions such as…

–  … “Ballgowns, British Glamour Since 1950″ at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London from May 19, 2012 – January 26, 2013.

– 2012 will also bring some fantastic fashion reference films including the wildly anticipated The Great Gatsby starring Carey Mulligan, the beautiful Gemma Ward and Leonardo DiCaprio. Ladies, get your flapper dresses and feather hear bands at the ready!

– Carine Roitfeld – ex Vogue Paris editrix’s long awaited magazine is due out in September. Will she stick to her hyper-sexualised ways or move on to a softer edge? Either way, here at Feathers we are over-the-moon excited…

– If there is one Royal event set to upstage last year’s Royal Wedding, it is the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee this February. Plan accordingly by making sure you have SS12’s must-have matching skirt suit and some suitable jewels. There’ll be celebrations throughout the country to mark the occasion, and not just because the nation has been bequeathed an extra bank holiday. Expect street parties, bunting galore and a rousing display of national pride.

– April will bring us the very first World Shakespeare Festival – a celebration of the playwright produced by the Royal Shakespeare Company. Thousands of artists from around the world will take part in almost 70 productions, plus supporting events and exhibitions, right across the UK, including London, Stratford-upon-Avon, Newcastle/Gateshead, Birmingham, Wales and Scotland and online. With an abundance of choice from all of Shakespeare’s best works, it will be a matter of which one “to go, or not to go” (sorry, we had to!)

– New to the Feathers shop floor, Mary Katrantzou will be hitting our Knightsbridge and online stores in March! Let the countdown begin…

– 2012 will also see the release of some seriously fantastic music. Make sure to check out the albums of some Feathers’ favourite females: Lana Del Rey (January) and Emeli Sande (February).

– Right around the corner from our Knightsbridge home, the annual BADA Antiques and Fine Art Fair will take place in Sloane Square in March. It will welcome even more debonair chaps and discerning ladies now that it has been billed as the UK’s “premier art and antiques fair”.

– June will bring the Hampton Court Palace Festival. An annual mixed-genre music festival in the manicured lawns and well-tended squares of Hampton Court Palace, this is altogether more refined than your typical summer festival. Previous headliners have included Elton John, Andrea Bocelli and Eric Clapton.

– June will also bring the Greenwich + Docklands International Festival with over 200 free performances taking place. It’s been going for a few years now, but with this being the Olympics year expect a bumper programme from this East End event.  Which brings us too…

– Lest us not forget the Olympics! Our streets will be overcrowded with a new kind of tourist – the Sports Tourist. East London hipsters will be walking side by side with the best athletes the world has to offer… Now that’s a fashion editorial concept worth pitching. Best start getting fit now to not embarrass our country’s athletes…

See? 2012 isn’t looking so bad, is it?
