We are nearing the end of New York Fashion Week, so we thought we would share a few of our favourite collections with you in this report….
Alexander Wang mixed things up once again, playing with the concepts of street/sportswear with a city sleek look, by incorporating elements of mens boxer shorts on skirts, white collared pinstripe shirts and trench coat detailing. It had the nineties vibe with denim jackets, logos like ‘Parental Advisory Explicit Content’, focusing on branding by incorporating Alexander Wang on waistbands and of course embracing the midriff!
Jil Sander Navy looked fresh and crisp for SS14, with a hint of Hawaiian print, a fusion of pastel shades in blue, aqua yellow and pink in light knits and cottons. Classic simple look with straight leg trousers, high round necklines and a slightly oversized short sleeves on shirts and blouses. Perfect summer work wardrobe!
Helmut Lang took its usual dark tone with a monotone palette (even though they did throw in a little bit of pink mid way through), experimenting with layers/paneling of sheers, appliques combined with asymmetric leather pieces. The couple focused on straight lines and a clean finish which was inspired by artist, Wade Guyton’s canvasses. It may be dark but it definitely feels light…..

New York has a very distinctive style, with a focus on the street style vibe, its slightly hard and edgy with a casual undertone. You have to be a cool cat if you want to get in, you need to embrace the rucksack and the creepers, and its one of the few places where greased back hair, on men or women, looks effortlessly stylish even when wearing a pair of jeans and a t-shirt! We had the pleasure of having Barbara and Alessandra from Etro come and visit the team a couple of days ago for staff training. They talked about the brand and this season’s collection, to keep us fresh and up to date for when we are serving you guys! We thought we would show you a quick glimpse of what we got up too and a few facts about what we learnt:
Paisley and dramatic stripes were inspired from the Tibetan style.
Knitwear is oversized and voluminous this season
Even the plain simple clothing need accents of colour and prints which is displayed in linings and cuffs for example.
3 Main style packages for this season: a) Tibetan style b) Patchwork fabric (velvet & lurex silk) c) Paisley – paisley leaves mean ‘life’, to take care of one self
