We had the pleasure yesterday morning of having Francesca from Jil Sander come and speak to the Feather’s staff on the SS13 collection. We appreciate her taking the time out of her busy schedule to teach us a few things which we can pass on to you, our customers! Here are just some of the things that we learnt:

The names of the SS13 styles  S-S13  all start with the letter ‘N’

Jil Sander tried to make all the jackets feel like cardigans – easy to wear and comfortable.

She selected fabrics that do not crease so that they are easy to travel with and pack well into luggage.

The sleeves on the short jackets are designed in a ‘banana` shape to create a greater ease in movement.

The dresses are designed in a circle shape..for example the pink dress shown above.

Another amazing show by Haider Ackermann…. Classic tailoring from Ackermann with over indulgent proportions of wide leg trousers and oversized shoulders. The designer suggested the looks were ‘like Marilyn Monroe emerging from the hospital all bundled up against the paparazzi. (Monroe was on the sound track.)’ Combining houndstooth and a military colour palette of ochre, khaki, brown, along with black and white…. beautiful collection all round!

We are huge fans of Rick Owens here at Feather’s, so we were really excited to see the AW13 show. It was a spectacular array of monochrome textures, oversized crochet and cross stitch detailing, as well as voluminous draped silhouettes.
