Alexander Wang

Here at feathers we are loving the AW13 Alexander Wang Collection. Wang did not disappoint by creating a cosy ski aprés essence too his street style aesthetic. This collection was all about texture with brushed mohair, appliqued alpaca, and embroidered leather, in the form of coats with dropped waistlines, draped twist detailing on shirt dresses & jackets and rounded pleat shoulders on silk tops & sweaters. Maintaining a Wang’s signature colour palette of black and grey was broken up with rust red ponyskin & metallic lurex jacquards. Definitely a more mature approach for Alexander Wang this AW13….. Tell us what you think?

Here are our picks from all the collections showing on the 8th February….. let us know what you think!

Helmut Lang

HelmutLang

Taking inspiration from the Guggenheim’s Picasso exhibition ‘Black & White’, Michael & Nicole Colovos incorporate cubism within striking geometric prints, a ‘sharp slouch’ silhouette and block colour construction. Leather, felt and silk were paired together to update the winter staples of coats and jackets into slightly futuristic attire. Hints of embellishment on tops & dresses continue the graphic print theme in a subtle and sophisticated manner complimenting the metallic shimmers of silver & pale gold dotted throughout the collection.

Yigal Azrouël

Yigietil

A sense of ease is reminiscent throughout Azrouël’s collection, with simple but strong looks of close fitted tailoring and form defiant dresses. Warm hues of petrol blue, aubergine / burgundy & tan break up the usual black common in autumn/winter shows. Clever use of textures such as jacquards, mottled knits, fur trim & felted wools bring an opulence to a working woman’s wardrobe. A sense of utilitarian function sweeps through the sophisticated outfits with details like zip fastenings on the legs of tapered trousers and drawstring toggles on parker style jackets.

Jason Wu

JasonWu

Jason Wu succeeds again in producing a high class collection and the ability to make women look feminine, sexy, and powerful all at the same time, exactly the reason why Wu called this show ‘Extreme Femininity’. A glamorous selection of crisp white shirts, fur trim jackets, A line pleated skirts and silk chiffon sweeping dresses. The signature throughout the collection was the cinched in waist created either as an inbuilt waistband or accesorised with black leather belts. Flashes of bright red, tan and finally vivid blue turn any girl into a vamp of a woman…. a collection only suitable for grown ups!

Chadwick Bell

Chadwell

Chadwick Bell is all about making a statement this season with his interpretation of a sixities mod style incorporating oversized chunky jellewery, exaggertaed silhouttes and colour combinations of tangerine orange, forest green, mustard yellow and touches of leopard print. The rounded dropped shoulder in his dresses, knitwear and jackets create a fluidty in conjunction with the sharp colour blocking and overbaring accessories. Although this collection has an ease, it also has a strong richness to it, not only through the colour palette but the array of fabrics used, for instance: velvet, shantung silk, suede, lurex jacquards & cashmere.

New York Fashion Week is upon us…. so welcome to the first review of Feather’s Fashion Week Report, where we select some of our favourite shows each day and share them with you. Let us know your thoughts!

Richard Chai Love

RichardChaiLove

Chai executed his clothing with ‘military’ precision including strict tailoring, olive green tones & fitted silhouettes. The main element of the collection was discipline, displayed in high neck jackets, double breasted blazers and slick pencil skirts, to portray a controlled sexiness throughout. The most successful moments were when Chai incorporated a jacquard check print in contrast to metallic leathers and heavy wool.

BCBG Max Azria

BCBGMaxArzia

For BCBG Max Azria layering was key to create a soft grunge theme throughout this season’s collection including tunics, puffer jackets, fur gilets, leather leggings & slouchy sweaters. Contrasting silk chiffon, leather, fur & knits in a combination of bold & intricate prints provides a sense of urban exoticism to a New York street style. A colour palette of monochrome and tonal greys was also extended to the styling on all the models with knitted beanies.

Kenneth Cole

KennethCole

Kenneth Cole’s return to the catwalk revealed a dark futuristic style with pleated leather, ribbed knits and double breasted coats. Playing with silhouette proportions by extending the shoulders, elongating the jackets & graduating layers of chiffon. Emphasised with severe styling of slicked back hair, metal chokers and leather harnesses to add a gothic edge to this wearable collection.
