On Tuesday night the Savoy Hotel & Theatre held the British Fashion Awards 2012, where the best of british talent was on display, with winners from Stella McCartney (Designer of the Year) to Erdem Moralioglu (New Establishment Award).

Not only was Feather’s happy to see J.W. Anderson win the ‘Emerging Talent Award – Ready-to-Wear’ but we were over the moon to also see Roksanda Ilincic come away with the ‘Red Carpet’ award.

Congratulations to all who won and we applaud you for being creative geniuses!

At the National Portrait Gallery the ‘Taylor Wessing’ Photographic Exhibition is now on showcasing 60 portraits from new contemporary photographers from all over the world. The Taylor Wessing Photographic Portrait Prize 2012 was awarded to Jordi Ruiz Cirera, who photographed a 26-year-old woman from Bolivia.

‘The winning image of a Mennonite woman, seated at a kitchen table, is part of Menonos, Ruiz Cirera’s long-term project to document the daily life of a religious community – and one which forbids images. Having travelled to South America on two occasions, Ruiz Cirera gradually won the trust of the residents of several colonies located south of Santa Cruz.’

At Feathers we are a little obsessed with the new series Hunted on BBC One with Melissa George playing Sam Hunter, a betrayed Spy looking for answers….. As we were watching Episode 7 we noticed a familar jacket that has a very distinctive style… that of Rick Owens, with the draped biker collar, fitted stretch panel sleeves and blister leather finish, you could not miss it!

Helmut Lang is fusing fashion and art to create a contemporary, cutting edge feel in his NY store by commissioning New York based artist Shelter Serra. Metamorphosing 5 key car engines from the 1960’s & 1970’s into custom cast sculptures, which have been injected with foam and uniquely dyed in a variety of colours. The artist’s inspiration has come from taking everyday objects that reflect a culture and placing them into a new context; by altering the composition Serra hopes for its viewer to re-examine his/her environment.
