So it’s official. Jil Sander‘s Raf Simons’ has found a new home at Christian Dior. How do you like that?

For such a minimalist designer, it’s difficult to imagine where he will take the grandios, highly feminine French maison.

We can’t wait to see what he is going to do. And we can’t wait for the couture! Any thoughts?

Jil Sander’s Paisley

We thought we’d share this psychedelic interpretation of Raf Simon’s Spring/Summer paisley print we found in Interview Germany.

I guess you’ve noticed that the paisley trend spread like wildfire this season – cue J.W. Anderson’s follow-up and Etro‘s classics.  All great.

Raf Simon’s is a more mod, rainbow version of the traditionally ethnic print. And it’s killer.

Carven for Spring

Spring Jackets are a tricky one, especially in London; from one day to the next we’re able to experience four complete seasons…

So we’re always on the lookout for pieces that can transition effortlessly and layer with ease. We purchased a series of Carven jackets (both long and short) for precisely this reason and we think they couldn’t be more appropriate. The chic colours manage to say Spring while their weight, texture and cuts grant space for the relentless polarities in forecast.

While we have most Online, there are more styles available in our shops so do pop in if you can to our Knightsbridge and/or Westbourne Grove locations!

Walk on Westbourne Grove

With London’s recent abundance of vitamin D rays , there’s really no better place to hang than on the brilliantly sunny Westbourne Grove. Bust out your shades (try these lovlies by The Row & Linda Farrow), grab some lunch/coffee at Ottolengi/Daylsford/Tom’s and pop into Feathers  and Nest in…Feathers for a browse at our new collections. Sounds pretty perfect right? Let the sun shine in.

J.W. ANDERSON SS12

We loved J.W. Anderson’s entire SS12 Collection, but we’re currently lusting over this combination wicker-mesh-fabric gilet in particular that we bought. Available in our Knightsbridge branch, there’s something about this piece that manages to be at once ethnic, minimalist and futuristic. We love it styled over trousers as pictured on the catwalk, or even moreso over a short dress. Pair that with these Ann Demeulemeester gladiators and we think you have a pretty sweet summer look, day or night. Non?

Those French are super clever with words. We adore the apothicaire we just picked up on our recent buying trip for nest by Mad et Len.

Formulated by an in-house biologist, these Made in France room fragrances are crafted from traditional Russian leather, infused with scented lava rocks. Sounds surreal right? Plus their rustic circular containers are something of a visual treat.

We’re looking forward to their arrival! Keep checking at nest…in feathers in Notting Hill.

Boetti for the Weekend

Alternando da Uno A Cento e Viceversa, 1993

This past weekend we decided to head over to the Tate to check out the recently opened Alighiero Boetti exhibition.

Boetti is of the 1960’s Arte Povera School that seems to be ultra-trendy at the moment – cue the Italians: Antonio Marras, Etro. The retrospective showcases the artist’s broad body of work which includes endless experimentation across a multitude of media.

Centri di Pensiero, 1978. Ballpoint pen on paper.

From his obsession with stamps, commas and airplanes to the later Afghan-inspired embroidery, we were heavily inspired. We especially loved the artist’s 1978 Diptych covered with ballpoint pen, pictured above. Not to mention his early self-portraits and pencil explorations in which he used both hands and sides of his body and mind to illustrate investigations of the Self ; something highly surrealist in principal.  And of course, we absolutely adored his embroidery with major emphasis on the rugs and Tutto, which takes up space in the exhibition’s final room.

Tutto, 1986-1987

Do make it down if you can. And if you’re on the lookout for rugs, while we may not have any Boetti’s, we do have some fantastic Private 2024’s at Nest which recall a slightly similar (even if less colourful) ethnic vibe.

7 Designers, 7 Short Films

Last night some of the Feathers girls head over to the old Selfridges Hotel to check out The Film Project: seven short films created by six different artists surrounding seven designers. Each short is a bespoke interpretation of a brand; each a different type of fashion film. Designers included A.F. Vandevorst, Alexander McQueen, Ann Demeulemeester, Comme des Garcons, Dries Van Noten, Gareth Pugh and Rick Owens.

The event was a major hit with Tim Blanks, Gareth Pugh and Ann Demeulemeester herself in attendance!

Our favourite films: Ann Demeulemeester’s “In the Desert Son”, starring the designer’s muse Jamie Bochert and with direction and music by Bochert’s husband Michael C. Pitt, as well as Rick Owens’ celebration of his wife Michelle Lamy in D’Amore Sull’Ali Rosee directed by Ruth Hogben.

On until 25 March.
