We were not sure what you thought, but we were a little disappointed about many of the dress selections that graced the red carpet for this years Met Ball.

The museum celebrating the opening of its exhibition dedicated to couturier Charles James, many embraced old school elegance in the most romantic of dresses. 

With many celebrities looking awkward in ill fitting gowns or unsuitable designs for the occasion, we were relieved when a few stars shone in their attire. Here are some of our favourites including 3 power couples that complimented one another brilliantly….. let us know what you thought!?

Beyoncé wore a Givenchy Haute Couture by Riccardo Tisci dress with Lorraine Schwartz jewellery.

Blake Lively wore a custom-made Gucci Première gown, along with Ryan Reynolds also wearing Gucci.

Victoria Beckham wore a white column dress of her own design with Jacob & Co. jewellery. David Beckham in a Ralph Lauren Black Label tuxedo jacket and trousers

Rihanna wore a custom-made top and skirt by Stella McCartney.

Jay Z & Beyonce in Givenchy

Jessica Alba wore a Diane von Furstenberg dress and clutch.

Kate Bosworth wore a dress by Stella McCartney with jewellery by Ana Khouri and Sidney Garber. Marion Cotillard in a Dior Couture spring/summer 2014 dress.

Rick Owens SS14 show was the highlight of Paris Fashion Week, with his cast of 40 step artists dancing and creating a rhythm with their bodies movements. Six months down the line, we are all still talking about the cultural significance and power of the performance. I was like, ‘Oh my God, what have we signed up for? I’m going to vomit!’ I knew from that moment it was going to be crazy.

This was about strength. We didn’t want to be seen as angry black women. This was about staying true to who we are. We represent the love of the dance as art

We wanted to be careful about how we were going to be portrayed – we didn’t want to be seen as angry black women. Rick was very sensitive to that and wanted to make sure we weren’t misrepresented. It’s interesting because there was a very different response from people inside the room compared to those looking into the situation.

As we were perusing through Harper’s Bazaar May Edition over our morning coffee we came across Etro’s SS14 collection mood board. With all its rich colours, clashing vibrant prints and infusion of the exotic, we could not help but dream of summer and the upcoming holidays / distant travels. In the article Veronica Etro pays tribute to her grandmother’s patchwork patterns, mix and matching the traditional paisley with florals, playing with proportion and scale, as well as incorporating harder elements like chain mail detailing.

‘My vision was de constructed elegance. I wanted it to be relaxed, blurring the lines between formality and informality.’
