World McQueen

We’re digging the latest McQueen campaign for A/W 12. McQueen has really become a complete world of its own, completely disconnected from all other designers.

Slowly making its way to us here at Feathers – in the mean time, Pre-A/W has arrived ;) – , McQueen A/W12 currently sits on the latest cover of Harpers’ Bazaar. In which, there is a fantastic read in the first person by Sonia Rykiel, in which she speaks quite frankly about her life, her brand and her battle with Parkinson’s.

For more Sonia, check out her Spring/Summer collection currently in our SALE ;)

I Am a Brush from Echo Morgan on Vimeo.

8-year loyal Feathers gal Echo Morgan is a keeper. Currently completing her MA at the Royal College, Echo spends her time away from Feathers exploring her history and herself through performance art. Inspired by 1960’s and 70’s feminist performance artists including Marina Abromovic, Carolee Schneemann and Yayoi Kusama, Echo’s performances act as excercises, exploring notions of trauma, identity and the [female] body.

For her most recent exhibition, Morgan took on action painting with her hair as paintbrush. The result is both an incredible abex painting, somewhere between Pollock and Motherwell, and an effectively active, physically enduring performance.

Enjoy the above short of the occasion with the narration by Echo herself.

Thanks for sharing Echo!

In last week’s issue of Hello Magazine, LuLu – one of our favourite regulars here at Feathers – looks ever-so-lovely in our Spring/Summer ’12 collections. Raquel Allegra seems to have been a favourite of the Scottish singer.

Funny enough, we’ve recently had the OBE’s 1975 cover of Bowie’s The Man Who Sold the World on repeat after seeing it on the BBC’s Bowie special last weekend… We can’t get enough.

Special thanks to stylist Jillie Murphy.

More Art: John Currin at Sadie Coles

A precise response to John Berger’s Ways of Seeing: John Currin’s nudes are currently on display at Sadie Coles South Audley Street.

John Currin Honeymoon Nude, 1998.

The American painter’s technically impressive canvases perfectly confuse and promote oppositions between past and present, neo-classicism and contemporary, viewer and voyeur, subject and object, etc, etc, etc…

A great show both visually and conceptually. Again, we wouldn’t mind a Currin nude feathering our nest

Picasso Prints at the British Museum

If you’re looking for something to do this weekend in London – if the sun doesn’t come out of course – you should stop by the British Museum to check out their recently acquired set of etchings by Picasso.

Produced by the artist between 1930 and 1937, ‘The Vollard Suite’ commissioned by Ambroise Vollard was gifted to the museum in its complete set of 100. It is the first time we are able to view the complete collection in the U.K.

Brilliant in its entirety, the works, in sequence, illustrate a narrative of the artist’s life during this period, reflecting his erotic and artistic obsessions.  We see his relationship with Mistress Marie-Therese as well as his Minotaur alter-ego; each print presupposes the next.

If you like a good narrative, not to mention a good Picasso, and fancy a free exhibition, pop over TBM to check out the Vollard Suite and enjoy the Rembrandts, Greek and Roman vases, antique marbles, Ingres drawings that sit alongside the Spanish artist’s work.

We wouldn’t mind a few prints from the suite up on the walls of our Nest…

While you’re out, come down to Westbourne Grove for our sale of up to 30% off selected Nest items!
